Joint Base San Antonio is a joint base under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 502nd Air Base Wing, Air Education and Training Command. Joint Base San Antonio was formed when Fort San Houston was combined with Randolph and Lackland Air Force Bases in 2010 as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Initiative. Fort Sam Houston's primary mission is to serve as a medical training and support post and to support soldiers deployed worldwide with contingency operations. Lackland AFB offers security forces, communications and infrastructure support for the 802nd Mission Support Group. Randolph AFB is home to more than 30 Department of Defense units which include the Air Education and Training Command, the Air Force Personnel Center, and the 12th Flying Training Wing.
